Our top 10 Q&As.  Across all our media platforms, including Chewy.com, Amazon, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, Instagram, and our website, we frequently receive questions about how to prepare a go-bag for your pet. What products should be included and why? How much do I need?  So we have come up with our TOP 10 questions and answers right here!

Q – Why prep for only 72 hours?

A – FEMA recommends a minimum of a 72-hour supply for a couple of reasons.  First, if you have been evacuated, you will usually know within 72 hours when you will be able to return home or if you need to make long-term plans.  Next, it can sometimes take shelters up to 72 hours to get set up after a disaster.

Q – How much water will my pet need?

A – A healthy pet will normally drink between 1/2 to 1 ounce of water per pound of body weight per day.  For example, a 20-pound pet would need 10 to 20 ounces of water per day.

Q – What is in the Mayday Emergency Dog and Cat Food?

A – We do list the ingredients on our website. They use a generic food that Mayday Packages in foil-sealed pouches to give it a 5-year shelf life.  Remember, never repackage your pet’s kibble. It can start to go bad once you open the bag within about 3 weeks.  If your pet has to have their own food, buy a smaller bag and rotate it based on the expiration date.

Q – Will my dog get sick if I use the Mayday food?

A – Generally, if you’re rotating your pets’ protein in their diet regularly, then no, they should not get sick.

Q – Why are your pet evac pak’s so expensive?

A – We did a comparison on both the cat and dog packs and found that you actually save about 30 to 40% by buying a complete kit rather than buying each item individually.  Click this link for the cat cost comparison

Q – Why do you use a slip lead instead of a collar and leash in your packs?

A- During any emergency, if you panic, your pet might panic.  They could run and hide.Slip Lead, collar leash, british style,  A slip lead is the best tool to have in your emergency kit if you have to grab your pet and evacuate quickly.  You can slip it over their head and around their neck with no buckling or fumbling to put on a harness or collar.  Sometimes moments can mean getting out with or without your pets.

Q – What is the expiration date on the Mayday Emergency Food and Water?

A- Both the Mayday food and water come with a 5-year shelf life from the date of manufacturing.  Pet Evac Pak will not send out food or water past 90 days from the date of manufacturing to assure its freshness and as close to a 5-year shelf life as possible.

Q – How heavy is the pack?

A – Depending on the pack, they range from 4.25 pounds for the Medium Saddlebags to 15 pounds for the 2-Big Dog pack.  For example, our best seller, which is the Big Dog Pak, weighs just under 9 pounds.  You can find all the weights listed under each item on our website under the additional information tab.

Q – What is the expiration date on the Packs?

A – All our packs have a 5-year shelf life based on the food and water.  Once you hit the expiration date, you can rotate the food and water, and your pack is still good to go.  The first aid kit has hydrogen peroxide and the Pet Vet, which have a 2-year shelf life, but, unopened, will still be good to use.

Q – What are the dimensions of the cat litterbox?

A – When opened, it measures 16 x 12 x 4.5 inches and is an extra-large size. Folded up, it measures 8 x 5 x 3 inches.
